Career derailed by kids. Sound familiar?

Do you think about retirement?: I do. I think about how soon I can retire, if I have enough money saved, how to better invest so that my retirement is comfortable. I’m focusing on the financial aspects.

Describe your situation?: I'm married with two kids. We live in Mississauga, ON. I should be eligible to retire in 14 years. We currently own our home.

How much money do you think you'll need when you retire? and why that much?: I’ll have a pension so I am glad to be getting money regularly. I don’t know if it’s enough though. I don’t know what expenses I’ll have when I retire.

What will you do differently than your parents?: My parents had no pension. I’m doing that differently.

If you had a time machine, what would you do differently?: I would have travelled for work before I had kids. I would have worked a lot more before having kids to have gotten further ahead in my career. Once I had kids, my career took a back seat.

If you won $5mil in the lottery, what would you do with it?: Family trip. Buy a cottage. House upgrade.
